Well since I bought the car in 05 with 325 miles I have always had a problem when exiting my driveway real slow left or right. My front tires when turning actually seem to like slide, or hop. I have jacked the car up and checked for rubs, calipers, uneven tirewear, wheel movenment, tire rubbing, and have found nothing. Tonight after getting home from work I noticed it wont do this. So now atleast I know when the service guy goes with me the car has to be cold. Nobody on tech or a few other boards had heard of this. I have 5,000 miles left on my warranty so it's time to figure this shit out. I have allready made plans to stay with the car all day, so no dumb ass decides to go joy riding and wreck the hawk:flame:

Does sound kinda like popping? I may have this too. When it's real cold on a turn the wheels as hard as they'll go it makes a popping sound and I can feel it. I don't know what it is and it just started this winter.

I'm interested in what this turns out to be. Where are you taking it? Radley or Ultimate?

My car is doing the hopping thing Ive noticed lately too, but I have to have the wheel turned all the way for it to do it. Im chalking it up to worn out front tires since they kinda appeared at the same time. Just the same, Id like to know what it ends up being.

The popping youre hearing Silencer, is most likely your lower ball joints.

Going to Ultmate. I had a 02 transam that had about 65,000 miles and itnever did this. I'll let you know.

Well that's the same for me. Wheels turned all the way same as you. Mine has the original tires and it's allways done it. If I don't cut the wheels hard I can avoid it. Winter is worst for me, it makes the noise and hops every damn time coming out of the driveway. I'll post up tomorrow.

Mine does this too, and I never think about it until it happens. I would say that after doing it intentionally to try and figure it out, that I think because the steering fluid is cold and the rack/pinion is cold, it doesn't turn one wheel or the other far enough, so it hops and slides as it isn't pointing quite the same direction as the other wheel.

That's my .02

Well I left the driveway this morning and it was terrible, cutting the wheel left. Drive 2 miles to the dealership, wait 20 minutes and the car won't do it for the guy:blue: The guy lstens to what I say and as we are walking he mentions something about GM's power steering fluid when it's cold:dunno: But him and the service writer I guess she is called, and I believe he is her boss now tell me that they would do a fluid flush (steering) at $105 or so. Now I have lost interest. I'm like so I have a 0 deductable but I have to let you do a steering flush first, so I tell the lady either my car will be there in the am or it won't. I know about service writers, my ex use to be one, yea I know. So at this point I can't see taking it. In about a hour I'm letting my boy see how it does it only when it's cold. It has done it before the new slotted and drilled rotors, and after. The tires are original and the brakes and calipers are stock.

This is the way I feel. I hope this is right, cause I can let the car warm up for a few and it's fine.

I know it takes a bit more than a few minutes, because the only way to warm that fluid up is to get it circulating. I think it's odd though that it would stay cold even after the engine has warmed up. The thing about it not doing it at the dealership is that you didn't let it sit long enough. It needs to sit for several hours and let it get outside temp inside the engine. They won't believe you until then. Trust me, they never believe the person who drives it every day :really:

I'm willing to bet it's the rack-and-pinion. I've seen some people put in after-market rack-and-pinion setups for their auto-x cars, but I've never actually seen an after-market kit. :dunno:

i don't know. sleepinghawk and i both have very low mileage cars, it would have to be some kind of defect if it was that i would think :dunno:

That's what I'm thinking it is. :dunno: I'm not brilliant, but my observational skills would lead to be believe that it is the rack/pinion setup.

randy best thing you could do is talk to konrad. im wondering if its just a bad bushing or loose rack and pinion. my car has 76k on it now (ugg ive put 12k on my car in 2 years) and ive got no problems with this poping issue.

This morning I sat for about 5 min and I was moving the steering wheel slowly to get the fluid moving. I did notice as soon as I started to move the wheel it was tight for a second (weird feeling), then it moved freely. I leave, turn left all the way and no problems. So if I warm the fluids by moving the wheel and or idling for a few I don't have no feel of the problem. I should of pushed the issue of the GM fluid that the guy was talking about, might of learned something. My boy does'nt believe the fluid is the issue either, but I do, he was explaining how the rack and pinion works, But the fluid did sit in the car for 2 years at 325 miles only. The fluid will be changed shortly. Any other comments welcomed

Im anxious to see what the flush does for you. Supposedly my rack was replaced shortly before I got my car, and Ive only had it about a year and a half. So I may follow suit if it works well for you.

Not going to lie to you, my son who lives with me, and his wife just came home last night with their new baby son, plus I have just started to look for another car to drive in the winter. Silver 02 grandprix GT or GTP. But I did research last night and only found that if you are doing the road coarses and others, they only had a problem with the fluid being too hot. So I stopped worring about it till I can get it changed which would hopefully be in 2 weeks. I want sythetic, so I need to read up. I will let yall know.

Congrats on the new grandchild! But it's cool, I'm not overly worried about it. I was just browsing around and spotted the thread and it piqued my curiosity again.

Thanks....Yea my curiosity almost drove me nuts worrying about it. I might get a chance if the weather changes after tomorrow, which is snow.
